Our Story
RubyRuth is a black owned, small business, founded in 2012 by Danielle Riviore as a way to turn her crochet and sewing hobbies into a business. But RubyRuth’s story started long before that.
The gifted hands of Danielle’s grandmothers Ruby & Bertha Ruth sparked passion and inspiration in Danielle at a very young age in a variety of interests and hobbies: photography, beauty, fashion, sewing, quilting, hand embroidery, knitting and crocheting.
Ruby ran a successful alterations business, while Bertha Ruth was a hairstylist, seamstress, and fiber artist. Both were well known in their communities for their skills with a sewing machine, in the kitchen and behind the styling chair as well as their fashion sense.
As Danielle’s skills became more refined and demand for her products and services increased, Danielle decided it was time to go from hobbyist to business owner. As for a business name, Danielle clearly felt it should reflect where her inspiration came - Ruby & Bertha Ruth. Hence, Danielle’s business, RubyRuth, was born, initially offering apparel such as crochet hats and baby dresses.
In 2021, RubyRuth grew to the next level by adding woodworking and laser engraving to the business to help bring even more creative ideas to life. In May 2022, the doors to RubyRuth Beauty Co. were opened in San Ramon, CA, for hair styling appointments. This came about just weeks after the passing of both Ruby & Bertha Ruth only 4 weeks apart.
Their legacy & loving memory goes into every service that RubyRuth provides. We look forward to helping you bring your ideas to life by channeling the inspiration, beauty, and creativity that Ruby & Bertha Ruth exemplified so well.
